The Ikiperu ceramic objects for Poltrona Frau investigates classic vessel archetypes, interpreted in a contemporary manner. The vessels are used as a canvas for a graphic expression, rebuilding familiar shapes with bold blocks of color and shifts of texture. The collection consists of the amphora-inspired Ikiperu Vase, the Ikiperu Cup, and the Ikiperu Pyx, a small box with a leather cord that facilitates its opening. All of the different objects combine colored glazed ceramic and unglazed ceramic for a visual and tactile effect.
The ceramic objects are hand made by the highly skilled artisans at Ceramiche Rometti.
The colors used throughout the collection are inspired by the Colorsphere palette of the Pelle Frau® leather, the cool Blue Sky tones and warm Earth Brown tones.
The Ikiperu collection by Kristine Five Melvær for Poltrona Frau, consists of a series of hand-turned and hand-painted ceramics, and a set of highly detailed patchwork cushions.
Ikiperu was the name of the goddess Cupra, worshiped by the ancient Piceni and Etruscans, the Italic population that formerly inhabited the modern regions of Marche and Umbria. The name Ikiperu means she who protects the land and recalls the worship of the goddess in rituals of protection and prosperity of agricultural and manual activities in the area. The collection is a homage to the historical tradition and artistic and cultural heritage of the area not only in the dedication of the name, but also in the choice of the main material, ceramic, which is locally sourced, and in the rounded and abundant shapes of the objects.
In addition to the Ikiperu ceramic objects, The Ikiperu collection by Kristine Five Melvær for Poltrona Frau also incorporates and a set of highly detailed patchwork cushions.
