The Ikiperu Patchwork cushions for are designed to celebrate the eminent artisanal traditions and superior leather craftsmanship that is at the very heart of Poltrona Frau. The cushions have highly advanced details, and demands an extreme precision. The Pelle Frau® Velvety leather tiles are top stitched to form a precise pattern with soft, symmetrical curves. The contrast between the nubuck tiles and the traditional Pelle Frau® leather in between them makes for a visual and tactile tension. The back of the pillow is a larger tile of Velvety leather perforated with the Poltrona Frau logo.
The Ikiperu Patchwork cushions comes in two sizes, the square 47 x 47 cm version and the rectangular 35 x 57 cm version. They encapsulate Poltrona Frau's color scheme in two harmonious combinations: Earth Brown, which combines warm nuances with ivory details, and Sky Blue, which matches cool tones with taupe accents.
In addition to the cushions, the Ikiperu collection by Kristine Five Melvær for Poltrona Frau consists of a series of hand-turned and hand-painted ceramics.
Ikiperu was the name of the goddess Cupra, worshiped by the ancient Piceni and Etruscans, the Italic population that formerly inhabited the modern regions of Marche and Umbria. The name Ikiperu means she who protects the land and recalls the worship of the goddess in rituals of protection and prosperity of agricultural and manual activities in the area. The collection is a homage to the historical tradition and artistic and cultural heritage of the area not only in the dedication of the name, but also in the choice of the main material, ceramic, which is locally sourced, and in the rounded and abundant shapes of the objects.
